I created LivSimpl for a number of reasons:
1. I’ve always found strange satisfaction in simplifying things.
2. I love writing.
3. Maybe my random thoughts can help someone spend a little less time doing something tedious and a little more time doing something they love, or help someone enjoy something they may not have taken the time for otherwise.
A Word on the Mundane
Every once in a while I’ll write something “deep” (I use the term loosely), such a different perspective on life and how we can enjoy it more fully by tweaking our outlook or behaviors. But more often than not, I write about the seemingly mundane. Things like e-mail filters and how to make your hot water last longer in the shower and a neat way to organize computer cables. But there’s a reason for that:
A lot of life is made up of those mundane things.
But if I can help someone spend a little less time doing something tedious and a little more time doing something they love, or help reduce stress so someone enjoys something they might not have taken the time for otherwise, then I’ve succeeded with this site.
A Word on “Productivity”
LivSimpl isn’t just about productivity – although there certainly are things here that relate to it. It’s about simplifying life. The difference? Productivity is about getting more done. Simplifying is about eliminating or making more efficient the things that distract us from what’s really important.
For example, don’t get better at managing your e-mail so you can process more e-mail. Do it so you can spend less time managing your e-mail.
While I generally aim to publish a post or two a week, it doesn’t always happen. Please be patient! As much as I hate to go a week without posting, I’d rather do that than put something up just for the sake of putting it up. To that end, I also welcome suggestions and guest writers.
About Me
My name is David (or Dave, I don’t have a preference) and I’m married to the perfect woman. We have one son, Jake, who is just turned a year old and is cuter than your kid. ;)
Work-wise, I’m a full-time copywriter at an ad agency in Salt Lake City, Utah. I also do freelance copywriting and digital coaching as well as a number of other side projects.
I’m far from perfect at doing the things you’ll see here, and I’m certainly not a brilliant writer, but I invite you to join me in trying to live a simpler life because I truly believe it will make a difference in our lives and the lives of those around us.
