Write in my journal

Sometimes when I’m on the train commuting to and from work, or at other times throughout my day, I see people and can’t help but wonder what their story is. It’s usually in a casual situation which quickly passes and I’m left wondering.
My curiosity has gotten the best of me and I’ve decided to do something about it. I’ve started a new site called Write In My Journal. When I see someone who I think may have a cool story to tell about his/her life, I approach them, explain that I’d like them to take up to two pages in my journal to write whatever they want. Sometimes I give them a prompt, sometimes I don’t. Ultimately, it’s up to them.
Some entries have been inspiring, others thought-provoking, sad and just… interesting. It’s a new site but I hope it continues to grow. It’s been a fun project and I hope you’ll take a look and let me now what you think.

what a great idea!
did you ever read “harriet the spy”? She had this great game she would play on the bus- she would look at people’s shoes and try to guess what their faces looked like, and what their lives looked like. Write in my journal strikes me as similar. I look forward to following this project!
This is a great site you’ve created over at Write in my journal. I find the stories make the people come alive.
Interesting and creative idea. I often wonder what people are doing or where they’re driving — especially at weird times of the day like 4 am. Of course, they probably wonder the same thing of me since I’m out. lol.
Off to check it out!
Thanks everyone for your comments! They’re very encouraging. :)
Neimanmarxist - I never read the books but it sounds like I missed out. :)
I am so happy to hear that others have t=my same fascination with humans. A few years ago I heard about a project similar to this one only the medium was a phone. Someone decided to pick randomly pick people from the phone book and ask them to tell them their “story”, because everyone has a story. It was amazing! I love to hear people’s stories. It makes me feel HUMAN!
I love love LOVE this site. It’s always interesting to catch a glimpse into a strangers life, and helps us remember how similar we all really are.
This is an inspired idea!! I guess it’s no secret that I love notebooks, but even more I love glimpses into people’s daily lives. The best part is how you include the photos of the journal entries. I miss handwriting –everyone’s writing these days is Arial or Times New Roman.
fantastic idea. i am going there right now.
it is not surprising that you had this idea on the train. some of our greatest ideas come to us while we are on the move. victor hugo had his on the bus. thoreau and many others walked. some drive. my thought inducer of preference is planes and airport lounges. the knowledge of 12 delicious uninterrupted hours on a plane is all my brain needs to take off and soar.
Good luck with Write in my journal!

David, this is absolutely inspired! I will subscribe and tell everyone I know. Off to add this to my Tumblr and Twitter right now.
I love it! I just spent 2 weeks in Peru learning about ancient cultures and while the cultures that made Peru what it is today are certainly intriguing, I was far more interested in asking our tour guides about their daily life and their thoughts about what tourism is doing to/for their country. I LOVE this idea and plan to follow it!
A novel idea! this could make a good book or even a film. Keep up with it!
We come across so many people in our lives and sift thru them to find those that matter most. We hold on to those that become close to and hope that it will last. It is a two-way street that even I find myself going the wrong way on.
I really like your idea! We all have a story to tell, and from a different angle they can all be super interesting! I’m looking forward to seeing this project take off. :)
Awesome Idea, I really look forward to see what kind of things you come across with the project, should be some really cool stuff……Props for thinking it up.
Rad idea! If I could go back in time and steal it from you… well… I would! Sorry to say.
Good luck with that site.

I came across the original site the other day via stumble. If you’ve not yet gone to visit writeinmyjournal, run, do not walk. It’s such a simple concept, but with amazing results. Truly one of the best examples of how a blog should be used. :)
