Take a moment for something beautiful

“Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.”
~Berthold Auerbach~

Take a moment and listen to this. If you’re in your office, close the door and turn up the volume. Put on headphones. Do whatever it takes to be able to focus on nothing but this music. It will take less than three minutes. (Give the player a second or two to appear and load.)

Hit play, close your eyes, forget where you are and what’s around you, and just listen.

There’s beauty all around us. Taking the time to seek it out and appreciate it can have a profound influence on our lives. I don’t think that’s a revolutionary idea, but I do think it’s easy to forget it amidst the pressures and deadlines and responsibilities we each face.

Here are some things I’m curious about:

1. What did you think about (or not think about) while you were listening to the music?
2. How did you feel when the song ended?
3. What are some ways you seek out beauty?

I have this song in my itunes and love it. I took your advice and closed my eyes and listened to it in my childrens playroom in the midst of 4 small children running around causing chaos. I just breathed deep and immediately relaxed a little and emptied my mind. IT is truly beautiful even in the midst of hundreds of legos.
    Thanks for the idea

Glad to hear it worked, even with four kids running around. :)

I love this music. It is beautiful in its simplicity. When I listen to it it brings me to a place in the mountains that I love. Thanks for sharing!

I really appreciate good music. Especially when it is relaxing and peaceful!

There was one time when I was 19, I was driving like a maniac trying to get to work on time (I’m a procrastinator at heart, even when it came time to go to work) and everything was slowing me down. You know, one of those driving experiences where you hit every red light, people drive insanely slow, and you are always trapped in the slowest lane. Of course this only happens when you are in a hurry. Well, I was feeling so stressed out, and I was stuck at this one light for a LONG time. While I was sitting there impatiently, I noticed a flock of birds flying together in a carefree pattern. They were just 60 to 100 birds flying around together, minding their own business, and suddenly I was so much calmer thinking about their little existence. I remember thinking they were so beautiful among the gross, ugly powerlines, traffic lights, and man-made structures all around. That was the first time I started noticing that wherever you are, you can find beauty if you look for it!

This post just reminded me of that experience. :)

I’m a little behind, so I was just able to listen to this. It’s perfect timing, too, because it’s gray and rainy today and the music gives me a cleansing, new sort of feeling. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks so much for the comment. The album is fantastic and was actually nominated for an Academy Award.
